What is a CSA and Why join one?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. A CSA is designed to connect local farms and farmers with its community. A system where the local food web is improved as well as the local food supply being supported. Essentially a member invests in a share of the farms harvest before the growing season begins. Helping to get our farmers started during spring time in order to grow better crops and more of them, which in turn will supply members with seasonal fresh goods.
CSA programs help to address the problem that the average distance that food travels from Farmer to Consumer in the U.S. is approximately 1,300 miles, buying from a local small farm insures a fresher product that was ripened naturally on the plant and not artificially in/prior to transport, therefore a higher density of BioNutrients, meaning your body gets more nutrient density from the same amount of food.
What to expect from our CSA?
We create a crop plan for the duration of our growing seasons to supply a variety of naturally grown fresh goods, of set value for our share members. Each share will contain an assortment of seasonal vegetables. In the spring the shares will contain mostly leafy greens (heads of lettuce, arugula, cabbage) along with root crops such as beets, radish, turnip & carrots. Getting more into the season will come our summer produce, tomatoes, cucumbers, sweet corn, occasional root veggies, leafy greens, and other seasonal items.
NEW* Our “Individual” size share is geared towards people who don’t use a lot of produce per week but like to have fresh goods on hand. (Or for 1 person)
Our “Standard” size share can supply 2-3 people with weekly fresh produce.
Our “Family” size share can supply 4 to 5 people.
-Flowers will additionally be available for sale at share pick up once blooms begin.
Shareholders can pick up a boxed variety of fresh picked goods on an arranged day, weekly, throughout the season.
A google form will be sent out to our members, weekly, to gauge preference among the selection of vegetables for said week (allowing for substitutions) with a chosen time slot for easy pick up!
